ELV directive

An End-of-Life vehicle (ELV) can be one of two things a natural ELV or a premature ELV. A natural ELV is normally about 13 years old and will have suffered natural wear and tear. You know the car...you’re proud of the mileage and might even have taken a picture as you ticked over to that 140000 miles mark (I wouldn’t recommend doing it whilst driving at 65 mph though as I have known a friend to do).

Corporate Social Responsibility programs do this to an extent and social enterprise like Giveacar takes this idea to the extreme.

An Interview with Tom: director and founder of Giveacar

When did you get the idea of starting Giveacar?
It didn’t really come to me in a flash I guess I just did it when I was dealing cars. I spent a long time looking on the internet for ways to advertise cars and I probably just came across the American car donation sites and I thought why has no-one adapted this for the UK.
Why donate 80% to charity?

Government policy change benefits Giveacar

There was an article in the teams about car scrapping guidelines. So this news probably didn’t mean as much to the rest of the population as it did to Giveacar employees but the fact remains it is something that affects millions of car owners across the UK. So what is this big event?

Giveacar...it's the new black

Giveacar...it's the new black
Well, vampires are actually the new black. They seem to have hit popular fiction, television and film with a vengeance from The Vampire Diaries and True Blood to Twilight. In the real world though, Giveacar really is the new black. The scheme reflects people’s desire to be charitable, to help the environment by recycling and to promote ethical business.

Donating to charity, can I afford it?

There are a lot of points in the day when I could part with my cash. There are people playing instruments at underground stations, sitting on the street, sometimes sitting by cash machines so that when you are showing Japanese students around your city and say 'would anyone like any cash' they say 'yeah, me'. Awkward silence follows as 20 students turn to see what you will do...so what do you do, look down and walk straight past? Or part with your cash?
