Friends of Conakry Refugee School
CONAKRY REFUGEE SCHOOL (CRS) is situated in the capital of Guinea, West Africa. It educates refugee children who fled from neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone to escape from brutal civil wars. Many were deeply affected by the conflict, separated from their families and arrived alone.
CRS is run by a dedicated and supportive staff, refugees themselves. 500 students are presently receiving an education at CRS although many can’t afford to pay for school fees, uniform or exercise books. Due to lack of funding CRS used to rely on school fees of £3 a month which only some could pay.
Friends of Conakry Refugee School (FCRS), based in the UK, is the School’s only financial supporter and has raised money since 2005. All funds are used to benefit the School in the most effective way.
The charity works to keep the school open with decent basic facilities, to provide a comprehensive education from kindergarten through to school graduation with a daily hot meal, pays the rent and upkeep on school buildings, funds basic writing materials and raises funds to help pay teachers a basic wage.
A good education is the only hope for a positive future for these refugee children.
