At Giveacar, we're all about celebrating the incredible work of UK charities.
Especially the smaller grassroots charities, that work hard to support our communities. Every quarter, together with our amazing donors, we team up with a small charity to help them raise funds for a project they’re passionate about. You can check out some of our recent projects below. They are proof that when we come together, even in small ways, big things happen. Think about it: your old car, sitting there gathering dust, can actually be a game-changer. It’s not just a rusty old banger anymore; it’s a stepping stone to making real, positive change So, next time you’re wondering what to do with your unwanted vehicle, remember, it’s not just clutter—it’s a chance to be part of something bigger, something that truly matters in creating a brighter future for everyone.
Partnering with APIE
This quarter, we are partnering with APIE, an incredible charity dedicated to advancing learning outcomes for children in Rwanda. Their flagship institution, Umubano Academy in Kigali, serves 340 students from Early Years to Lower Secondary. The school’s remarkable success has led to its expansion, yet it faces a pressing need for additional toilet facilities to accommodate all students. Your contributions will directly support the construction of new facilities, particularly benefiting 90 nursery children, thereby enhancing their educational experience.
The nursery children face significant challenges accessing the toilets, as they must navigate a flight of stairs requiring an adult to accompany them each time to ensure their safety. The existing toilets aren’t age appropriate and children are unable to use the facilities independently. This disrupts valuable learning time.
Your donation can make a difference
If you choose to donate your unwanted vehicle to APIE it will help them by providing appropriate toilet facilities and:
- Reduce lesson disruption: Many young children struggle with bladder control. Having accessible toilets nearby helps prevent accidents and discomfort for these young learners, helping them to focus on their learning. It also reduces adult time spent on dealing with accidents, which means more time for teaching!
- Encourage good hygiene habits: Having age-appropriate toilets in the Nursery will help children learn about good hygiene habits such as handwashing, which is essential for their health and well-being.
- Promote dignity and privacy: All children, regardless of age, deserve privacy when using the toilet. Toilets specifically designed for young children provide a safe and comfortable space for them and help to promote independence.
- Promote gender equality: Providing separate toilets for boys and girls promotes girls’ access to safe sanitation facilities from a young age – something which often becomes a barrier as girls get older. With your funding, 90 Nursery children will have their own safe, accessible toilets to use and the existing toilets can be distributed for use by the 90 students in the Lower Primary year groups
