Age UK Milton Keynes

Age UK Milton Keynes is a local independent charity working with and for older people in the borough of Milton Keynes. Our charity opened its doors in June 1978, with the mission of making a positive contribution to the wellbeing and quality of life for older people and their families.

Today we support approximately 6,000 older people each year, providing services and support to help them lead an enjoyable, informed and fulfilling life.  Our services aim to:

  • reduce social isolation and loneliness
  • empower older people to maintain their independence
  • improve the standard of living of those living in poverty
  • enhance self respect, confidence and self-worth amongst older people to encourage emotional and physical resilience
  • promote wellbeing and help people prepare for the life ahead

Our support is available to anyone aged 55 and over, but we find our support is often needed by the most vulnerable and isolated including older people who live alone, who care for a loved one or are living with long term health conditions. Therefore, we provide a range of services and activities that help older people as they move through the different stages of later life.

Our free and subsidised services include practical help such as shopping & housework, handyperson services and Technology Help; emotional support including befriending, social prescribing and hospital aftercare, and day activities such as lunch clubs & maintenance cognitive stimulation therapy groups (MCST) for people with dementia to help combat social isolation and increase peer support.

To support our activities, we raise funds through fundraising, grants and income generated by our eight charity shops. This is vital in helping us to provide the range of support needed by older people in our community.
