Joe Glover Trust

Charity Name: Joe Glover Trust

We are a local charity working with families and specialist children’s cancer units across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Dorset, Wiltshire, West Sussex and the Channel Islands. We provide support in two ways. Firstly we provide financial assistance to families to help with the additional costs of caring for a child on cancer treatment. During 2011, we gave 52 grants totalling nearly £30,000 to families needing a helping hand. These were for a variety of reasons such as rent or mortgage payments as one or both parents might not be able to work while the child is in hospital, additional travel costs to Piam Brown Ward in Southampton as children are treated here from anywhere in the Wessex Region, or sadly help towards funeral costs.

Secondly we support the Piam Brown Unit which is the regional paediatric oncology and haematology centre for the Wessex Region at Southampton General Hospital. A major initiative has been the launch of the IT suite where The Joe Glover Trust equipped every bed with its own television, wireless keypad, laptop and XBOX. This has been so well received by children and parents alike. During 2011, we also gave a grant of £3000 to help towards the refurbishment of the Parents’ Room on the ward. Currently we are working towards providing a mobile pack to include an iPad for children and families needing to travel to Bristol Royal Hospital for bone marrow treatment.
