The Squad is based in Wimbledon and runs Thursday night clubs for people with learning disabilities. Our club nights are fun-packed and educational and our members enjoy socialising with their friends whilst also trying out new experiences.
The Squad is managed by a Board of Trustees and our club nights are run by 2 part-time club leaders, one of whom is a qualified Youth Work Manager. The club leaders are in turn supported by a fantastic team of volunteers. Leaders and volunteers ensure that club nights run smoothly for members.
The club is split into two age groups: the ‘Juniors’ club is for under 25s and our ‘Vets’ clubs is for over 25s. The clubs are run separately and both have their own programme of age-appropriate activities.
Our members are the most important part of The Squad. They help to the run the clubs, vote on what we should include in our activity programmes and are involved in decisions about The Squad’s future.
Our members are supported by two dedicated part-time club leaders, one per club, and an enthusiastic and hard-working group of volunteers. Our volunteers help to organise activities and always encourage everyone to take part.
We provide club nights on Thursday nights during term-time for people with learning disabilities. We encourage members to try new experiences, and break down barriers to offer them more opportunities and choices. Our services for people with learning disabilities are guided by national and local policies.
The work conducted by The Squad is a valuable resource to its members who benefit from its fun and educational experiences.
